6.04.2010 One of the oldest Krakow's fest - Rekawka

We would like to invite You to a post-holiday Tuesday to a traditional Rękawki holiday on the Krakus Mound, organized by the Podgórze Culture House. This year the main theme is "The life of a warrior and maiden - from birth to death".

Rękawka holiday has been celebrated for centuries on the 3rd day of Easter, since the year 2000 it takes place on the Krakus Mound in the form of competitions, fight scenes, presentations of life of the early Middle Ages. You can experience the recreation of craft, arms and attire of those times. You can try food prepared according to the recipes of our forefathers and wonder at the way they fought. In addition, You can learn about the history of the mound itself and of the countries of the Polanie and Wi¶lanie tribes.

The program is:
12.00 - The Beginning. The ritual of lighting a fire on the Krak Mound.
12.30 - The warriors' run around the Mound.
13.30 - The Cutting of Hair
14.30 - Kidnapping of a maiden
15.30 - Battle. Being accepted into the fellowship.
16.30 - The hero's song
17.30 - Death of the Chief. "Tryzna"
Also:
11.00-17.00 - middle-age medicine (Collegium Medicum UJ), wainwright's workshop, middle-age dresses, shows of daily life in the early Middle Ages, shows of traditional crafts: pottery, cooper, mintmaster, armorer, wickerman.

We also invite You to the part of Rękawki festival taking place in Krzemionki, next to the St Benedictus church, where the Holy Mass will be held at 12.00, 16.00 and 18.30. In its vicinity, there will be many indulgence tents.
