Boner Palace
During our tour you have a chance to see one of the most beautiful palaces in Krakow: Palace of the Boner Family... When we are guiding you we are trying to explain what might happen when you forget to check up some words in the dictionary.
Now I want to introduce you history of that famous family and their splendid house.
Progenitor of that family was Johann Boner von Landau who settled down in Krakow in 1483. Johan (John) became a bussinesman in renaissance Krakow. He did a fortune on producing paper - in 40' of the 16th century Gutenberg designed first printing press so good quality paper was a desired product. Boner became probably the wealthiest citizen in Krakow when he became the manager of Salt Mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia. In the end of his life he decided to make his nephew the inheritor of the fortune. And that was a very good choice. Seweryn Boner became a royal banker and then a very influential person in the royal court. As a confident of the King Zygmunt Stary (the Old) he led reconstruction of the Wawel Castle.
Seweryn died in 1549.

The Bonerowski Palace was built in 16th century (of course on the place of 13th century house) by Johan Boner and then for many years used to be in property of his family.
In 19th century as most of the houses in the centre palace was completely rebuilt. At that time palace was very popular thanks to Ignacy Krieger, famous photographer, who had atelier there. Then in the beginnig of the 20th century Feliks Manggha Jasieński was living there. Jasieński was art collector who gave whole collection to the National Museum. Nowadays in the palace you can find five star hotel - The Bonerowski Palace but the history of the name of the hotel you can hear from our guides doing the Free Walking Tour.
