Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When the tour starts?
A: At 11:00 am starts the Royal Krakow tour and at 3:00 pm starts the Jewish Krakow tour. But if you overslept on the first tour you have still two options:
1. Contact us and get a private tour.
2. Be at main market square at 12:00 as we'll come back there to listen to the bugle call and look for our sign:

Q: Does the tour take place 7 days a week including Saturday and Sunday?
A: Yes, Free Walking Tour in Krakow takes place every single day including Saturday, Sunday, Easter, Christmas, and even New Year's day (it was unforgettable our :)), so all holidays. If there will be some reason which will force us to cancel the tour. (Like during the president funeral) we will inform about it in thenews section)
Q: Where is the meeting point?
A: All our tours start in front of Saint Mary Church, on the main market square.

Q: Where is the emergency meeting point in case the regular one is not available to us?
A: The emergency meeting point is at the monument of Adam Mickiewicz, on the same side of the Main Market Square. It's basically the guy on the column in the middle of that side. The emergency meeting point is right next to the original one (ca 50 metres).
We are forced to use it when the regular one is not available to us, eg because of a film being shot or some ceremonies. Such situations happen very rarely, but they do.
Q: Can i just ask if your guide speaks english please?
A: Yes all of our Free Walking Tours are in english and all of our tour guides are licensed and have rights to guide in english. We guide in polish also but only for a special request and not on Free Walking Tour.
Q: How long the tour take?
A: About 3 hours. But we are not another clockwise thinking company. Our goal is to do a good tour, not to break a guinness world record doing the fastest tour with the longest distance. So sometimes can be longer just to finish the tour in a proper way.
Q: Who pays you?
A: We are total independent project and not support by any business, any government. We work only for tips. So we simply can't do a bad tour. Because then we won't affort cover our costs. :)
Answers for your questions from the internet and comments on our website – yes, we read them! ;]
Q:”We have been on similar walking tours before in other parts of the world but found that you have to be an olympic sprinter to keep up with the guide and have to have extra sensory hearing to hear what is been said, especially if you are at the back of the group. Is the tour conducted at a relatively easy going pace and do people participate? "
A:Our target is between 1-100 years old, apparently for everyone who can follow the group. So the speed of the tour is related to the customers needs. We also always encourage people to ask questions, so even if You can't hear something properly You can always ask to repeat.
To see how participative our tours are, You can check comments on our website. Which are not censored at all.
To check how easy-going our guides are, You can check About Us section on our website: http://freewalkingtour.com/art/pokaz/1
Q:"Is there 'genuinely' no pressure put on people in the group to tip a particular or expected amount?"
A:We do explain at the very begining how we work and that we work only for tips. Then at the end we say that people can leave a tip, but it is up to them. There are many people who can't afford to tip us, so for them this is just a great chance to see the city in a profesional way. We are aware of that and we take this risk. So as long as we are doing good enough tours that other people appreciate enough to cover costs and get profit from it, we can afford to give this chance to people who can't pay. This is our way to change the world a tour at a time. :)
Q:"Are there tipping reminders pitched throughout the tour?"
A:3 hours is a very short time to talk about history of Krakow so there is no reason to talk more about tips during the tour. :) Sometimes when some new people join we briefly describe the idea to them. That's all.
Q: If I were to go on free tour my concern would be what sort of tip would be appropriate? This is just in case I do end up on a free one, rather than booking one and paying for it myself.
A:It's totally up to You. Every contribution will be welcome.
Q:Where do the tours go (apart from the Jewish Quarter)?
A:Right now we do two Free Walking Tours both of them start from in front of Saint Mary's Church.
I Royal Kraków 11:00 am
-Old town
-City walls
-JP II site
-Wawel castle
-Wawel dragon
II Jewish Krakow 3:00 pm
-Jewish quarter Kazimierz
-Synagogues
-Schidnler's sites
- Jewish ghetto from WWII
Sometimes we do organize special events. The best way to know about it is to be our FB fan at our Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Krakow-Poland/FreeWalkingTourKrakow/344325501275
Q:"I like the sound of the pub at the end of a tour :) "
A:Yes, sometimes we do "unofficial part of the tour" and sometimes it takes longer than the official part. :) But this is a spare time of the tour guide and it is totally up to her/him.
Q:"One final query re the free walking tour - does the tour take you either to or past Schindlers factory."
A:We go to Schindler's factory at the end of the Jewish Kraków tour. We tell the whole story about Schindler and the factory in front of it, but we don't go inside.
Q:"I have a bit different question - will you be happy with tips being EUROs? Thanks. "
A:It is not a problem to change euro notes for us.
No reason to lose money to exchange euro coins into PLN (rate is much worse). So we gather them for next holidays. :)
But still much easier with euro coins than with Serbian, Czech, or Izraeli coins. Which we actually keep as a souvenir. :)
So yes we will be happy with all kind of contributions for sure!:)
Q:"Does the tour go into the Wawel castle and cathedral - I am refereeing to areas that are "free"? Thanks,"
A:On the Royal Krakow tour we go up the Wawel hill, we see Wawel cathedral from outside, we enter the Wawel castle courtyard, and we go down to the Wawel Dragon statue.
If You have any question about our tours, service, Krakow, Poland or whatever, please send it to us by email and we'll post it with answer in this section.
