Once the heart of Jewish life in Germany, Berlin’s landscape changed irreversably with the Nazi seizure of power. Within a matter of years, Europe’s most liberal and metropolitan city had been transformed into the capital of one of the most destructive regimes in human history: Hitler’s Third Reich, but also the birthplace of powerful forms of resistance – big and small.
Join Walkative! Tours on ‘Berlin under the Swastika’ to explore this dramatic shift in the history of the city, and trace the steps of the rise of the Third Reich to its final destructive vision.
On this tour, we will go to the former Jewish quarter and learn about the thriving Jewish life here before 1933, and how it was soon lost. We will explore the former ministry district and Reichstag, and discuss the propaganda machine and glorification of the Fuhrer, and we will see, too, the memorials dedicated to the groups victimised by the Nazis – from the Roma and Sinti to the homosexuals.
After this 3.5 hour tour, you will see how after rebuilding itself twice since the Second World War, Berlin became the city it is now: never hiding anything about its gruesome past, but openly trying to make amends and pay respect to the people who suffered here during that time.
My wife and I have had many walking tours in Berlin. Jules is a super cool dude and quite possibly has the ability to be a great actress!
She filled our entire afternoon with a stroll through the lives, loves and sorrows of the berlin story under the nazis. This tour is a must for anyone wanting to hear a real German tour guide bring to life the horrors of nazism and its impact on the world.
Jules is great craic as we say in Ireland. Don’t miss this tour.
Jules was easy to understand, very knowledgeable and an incredible story teller!
Me and my family had a great time on this tour. Jules was an amazing and kind guide who gave us loads of information, stories and unexpected facts about Berlin under the nazi regime. She managed to make the history come to life while we’re walking through the city. I’ve done many of these free walking tours and this one was by far the best! The tour took 3 hours but Jules managed to keep our group captivated the entire time.
We had an amazing tour through Berlin with Jules! Recommend it to everyone visiting Berlin.
We had Rob (and his very friendly dog) for this tour and, just like the Welcome to Berlin tour, this one did not disappoint. Rob was engaging and informative and kept us all interested for the 3+ hours. I’ve given him a 9/10 and deducted 1 point because he was a Man Utd fan!
