St. Nicholas Basilica in Gdańsk reopened! And (a modest) Walkative! share in its renovation!

A few days ago, the Gdańsk branch of Walkative! team visited the Basilica of St. Nicholas in Gdańsk (we attach a few photos from the visit for you). For many years, the church was in a very bad technical condition, and there was a risk of a construction disaster. Finally, on October 31, 2018, the Basilica was closed and the costly process of saving one of the oldest gothic churches in Gdańsk, built at the end of the 13th century, began. During the works in the building, numerous archaeological research, excavations and discoveries were carried out - including the discovery of the late Baroque door in the presbytery.

This Saturday, August 8, for the feast of Saint Dominic, the Basilica will be reopened (without the south aisle). On this occasion, the Prior of the Dominican Order in Gdańsk, Michał Osek OP, invited Walkative guides! inside for a unique "curatorial" tour and showed the effects of conservation works and... the Baroque doors, which renovation we had financed! We did this as part of our social activity that we are very proud of! If you are interested what else we have achieved, please visit the NEWS section on our website.
