About

Kraków’s Old Town survived the Second World War, so you’re able to feel the ambiance of the days when it used to be the capital of Europe’s largest country. Come join us for a tour around a city that hasn’t changed much since the Middle Ages to find out why it was included on the first-ever UNESCO Heritage List!

We will show you where to look to find traces of the city in its heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries, when Copernicus himself walked these streets. These were the days when Kraków teemed with the sounds of many different languages, colourful clothing and exotic goods, and people from around the world who came here seeking their fortune. But the roller-coaster of history never missed the royal city, and its days of wealth and prosperity turned to times of collapse and decline. The most recent tragedy of World War II and the hopelessness of communism are something you can still feel roiling under the seemingly calm and peaceful surface of contemporary Kraków. It was also during this dark time that Kraków was home to a young man who later changed the fate of Poland and the world. His name was Karol Wojtyła, better known as Pope John Paul II.

Like every good story, Kraków’s should have a happy ending, right? The city today will surely provide one! Join us and be ready to watch, touch, listen, smell and taste. You will definitely need all of your senses to discover Kraków!

On this 2h 30 minutes’ FREE Walkative! TOUR you will see:

  • medieval city walls and Barbican

  • Main Market Square with Cloth Hall

  • St Mary’s church with its famous trumpeter

  • Collegium Maius, the oldest building of the oldest university in Poland

  • Archbishop Palace and “papal window”

  • Wawel Hill with the Cathedral and Castle’s courtyard

  • Wawel’s Dragon

  • and much more…!

After visiting the Old Town we recommend taking Jewish Kraków and World War II in Kraków free tours to understand Kraków’s history better!

We were lucky to have Damien who is a historian and a very proud resident of Krakow. He was very knowledgeable and it was easy to feed off his energy even if it was very unseasonably hot day. Would book again. Its my third city in Poland and I never hesitated to book Walkative. Thank you, Damien.

We joined this tour with Christopher in March and thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hours in his company. His jovial style helped us feel entertained and informed all in one as we visited a vast array of sites important to understanding the creation of Kraków as it is today. We would highly recommend this tour during the first couple of days of your stay as it really helped us put everything in context as we continued our adventures.

Thank you!

A Great tour

My family and I chose this tour on the first day of our trip to Krakow. I booked it on trip advisor and paid quite a lot to discover that most other people were attending a free tour and would pay what they thought it was worth at the end ! However, Damian was our guide and was very knowledgeable and clear in his explanation of the city’s history and architecture and it was worth the cost.

Ania was our tour guide for the day, really passionate and knowledgeable. Pity about the weather! But Ania did a great job in trying to get out of the rain and sheltered us! Would definitely recommend it to any travellers!
