About Elena

My name is Elena, and I moved to Munich in 1997 to earn my Master's degree in History, Art History, and Business Economics. While building a career as a provenance researcher and art curator, I also began guiding tours through the old city and the Alte Pinakothek museum. I became a guide because I believe history gives us a valuable opportunity to look back at those who came before us, reconstruct the past, and try to understand it. What I enjoy most about guiding is sharing these historical perspectives and perhaps finding ways to learn from them together.

What fascinates me most about Munich is its architectural and historical variety, spanning from the Middle Ages through Art Nouveau to the present day. Even though much of the city was destroyed during the Second World War, the reconstructed historic centre is beautiful to explore. On my walks, I particularly enjoy discussing the city's complex history during the Third Reich and delving into medieval European art, which is a deep personal interest of mine. When I am not working, I volunteer for Johanniter, a charitable organization in Munich, and spend my free time enjoying literature, music, and travel.
