Alex
I am Alex, originally from Wales, but I have called London home since moving here in 2021 to study English Literature. Though I grew up elsewhere, my family has ties to the city stretching back three centuries, including ancestors who ran a pub in the East End during the nineteenth century. I have been guiding with Walkative! since 2024, taking great joy in sharing the centuries of stories left behind by those who built our city. The most rewarding part of my work is detailing the lives of Londoners of all backgrounds, from the mightiest to the lowliest.
Drawing on my academic background in both literature and architecture, I am particularly interested in London's twentieth-century history, as well as its broader cultural and political life over the last four hundred years. I enjoy delving into these subjects on my walks, notably on my 'London at War' tour, which examines everyday life under the nightly threat of bombing during the Battle of Britain. When I am out of my guiding shoes, I work as a musician and recording artist. I frequently perform live at venues across the city, participating in a vibrant music scene that is one of the main attractions keeping me in London.
