Esme
My name is Esmé, and I originally moved from Chicago to Madrid in 2018 for university. That trip was actually my first time ever on an airplane, but I quickly grew attached to the city and never left. I studied art history and political science, and since 2024, I have been sharing that background with visitors as a guide for Walkative!. Because art history is my primary expertise, leading tours of the Prado Museum is my favorite part of the job. I enjoy helping people connect with the artwork and exploring the cultural history behind the pieces.
What interests me most about Madrid is the local lifestyle, especially the priority placed on a well-balanced life and the tradition of sobremesa—sitting around the table for hours after a meal just talking. On my tours, I often highlight how the city makes culture accessible, whether we are discussing smaller galleries or modern art at the Reina Sofía Museum. When I am not guiding, I spend my time reading, taking film photographs, or playing football with my local team. I am also always happy to point visitors toward the Cerro del Tío Pío park, which reliably offers the best sunset views in the city.
