James
My name is James, and I am a Londoner who has been fascinated by this city's history since childhood. I studied literature for my undergraduate and master's degrees, dedicating much of my focus to London's past. My interest in guiding started when my friends and I would meet monthly to explore different neighborhoods, researching and sharing the local history as we walked. I have been guiding with Walkative! since 2024, and my favorite part of the role is revealing hidden details that even locals walk past every day.
What interests me most about London is its lack of a master plan, which leaves it filled with obscure alleys and unexpected stories just below the surface. I am particularly drawn to the old City of London, the original "square mile" that somehow retains its medieval street layout despite being heavily destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. Outside of guiding, I am a musician who writes original songs and has performed worldwide. Local history often makes its way into my music, including a song I wrote about the necropolis railway that once transported London's dead out of town.
