I am Paweł, and I have been sharing the streets and untold stories of Gdańsk with Walkative! since 2016. To me, cities are living entities built not just of stone and concrete, but of the shared histories of the people who inhabit them. Having traveled widely and seen places where vibrant histories have faded into silence, I appreciate how fragile a city's memory can be. Guiding gives me the opportunity to connect with visitors from all over the world. Using English as our common ground, I enjoy exchanging knowledge and exploring how people from different backgrounds perceive this city.
Gdańsk is a complex place of sharp contrasts—a historic center of trade and a beacon of tolerance, but also a city marked by the shadows of war and hatred. It has ceased to exist more than once, only to be rebuilt by generations of people who were often simply trying to survive harsh circumstances. On my tours, I focus on this layered history of destruction, resilience, and transformation. By discussing both the physical rebuilding of the streets and the spirit of those who found refuge here, I aim to give visitors an honest picture of how Gdańsk became a symbol of freedom and solidarity.
