Szymon
My name is Szymon Maraszewski, and was born in 1987 in Kielce in central Poland. I have moved to Wrocław in 2005 to study philosophy at local University. Apart from that I have also studied journalism. When I have found myself in new place for the first time, have found Wrocław very fascinating. I have spent countless evenings partying with my buddies and fooling around the city, discovering new things - some of my friends studied architecture, so we have discussed lots of interesting buildings. Ever since I was a kid, I have always liked history and historical places. I also loved talking about it. Another thing is that I always had pretty big, but general knowledge. Anyitime I participated in a walking tour, I was the guide's pet. I loved asking questions, discovering new trivia and "fun facts". That's how I have figured out that working as a tour guide myself would be something for me. That's how I have managed to turn my hobby into profession.
Apart from graduating from philosophy with master's degree I have also completed two state courses for tour guides. One for Wrocław and the area, second one for Sudety Mountains. I have written one and a half book about Wrocław as well as many articles. Many have been published by local magazine for construction engineers. I have worked for Karkonosze National Park, and Wrocław Jewish Community. During pandemic I was employed by local government to run online tours about some forgotten and remote places in Wrocław. I also have worked for the government when Wrocław was European Capital of Culture in 2016.
In my career of a tour guide I have showed around the city tens of thousands of people over twelve years. I have worked with high profile people, as well as school children. I had groups of military personel, corporate employees, celebrities, but also seniors.
I love my work and my tourists. Once I fell ill and had to go to the hospital - the thing I have missed the most was having an Old Town walking tour! I very apreciate compliments from my clients, several times someone has told me "this was the best tour I had in my life" - such moments are priceless to me and make me love this work even more.
I think I am kind of a tour guide who is best with informatinon, rather than jokes and small talk. If you are looking for an entertainment and semebody who is gonna make you laugh all the time, you might be slightly disappointed, although most people like my dry jokes. If you are looking for fascinating real life stories and crazy facts - I'm your man!
