A city with a coat of arms composed of 5 different ones, reflecting 5 different historical periods. Over its history, the Wrocław has changed hands countless times: its founder was Czech, then it was conquered by the Poles. Later, it was taken back by the Czechs, who were then annexed to Austria. Then, Prussia took it from Austria, and then Prussia became Germany. And this is when World War II started… Sounds like a mess, right?
Because of all those processes and their location in the heart of Europe, British historian Norman Davies once described Wrocław as Europe’s microcosm. He said that everything happened on the old continent at some point happened here.
Walk with us through this charming city full of buildings that are silent witnesses to its long and complicated history. Wrocław is the key to understanding the complexity of Europe’s history. So, let us puzzle it all out together during the Old Town Wrocław FREE Walkative! TOUR.

I came for the wrist watch of Michał and stayed for his humor, historical knowledge and the superb structure of the tour. Could not imagine a better introduction to Wrocław. And yes, its a great first starting point to understand central European history. I actually learned something about my family history too. Dziękuję!
Our guide Szymon (Simon in English) met us at the main square and proceeded to show us so many interesting things about his city of Wrocław. His knowledge of the history of the city started right there at the cathedral, showing us the lady swatting her drink husband with a shoe, above a beer hall from 1273. From there it only got better as he mixed history, architecture, folk tales, and most importantly humor, into our tour. He also blended his local recommendations into the tour as he has lived here a long time and knows where the best coffee, ice cream, etc is in the city. He also gave some off-the-beaten-path recommendations and suggestions for cuisine away from the overpriced main square. We have taken a lot of walking tours across Europe and Szymon’s was one of the best. We hope to return to the best city in Poland for the Communism tour some day soon and really hope that he is guiding it!
