Hello, I'm J.R. I moved to Berlin from San Francisco ten years ago and have been working as a guide for the last nine. Like many creatives here, I originally came to the city for filmmaking, but guiding turned out to be a better fit. I enjoy this work because I get to be outdoors and meet new, interesting people every day, and I've been happily guiding with Walkative since 2020.

My studies in English literature gave me a lasting interest in stories, which is why I was eventually drawn from doing beer tours to focusing on Berlin's complex history and counterculture. What I love about this city is its sheer scale; even after a decade, there are still parts I don't know and restaurants I haven't tried. Being in Berlin also provides great access to the rest of Europe by train, which suits my own interest in travel and food.
