Mark
Hello, my name is Mark, and I originally moved to Berlin from Bristol in 2013. My interest in the past started young, partly from watching war films with my grandfather, who fought in World War Two, and having a part-time historian for a father. I went on to spend six years working as a history teacher in Bristol and London, where I focused heavily on German history. This background naturally led me to become a walking tour guide, and I have been sharing this knowledge on the streets with Walkative! since 2023. I enjoy guiding because it allows me to help visitors understand the complex historical events that shaped this capital.
What fascinates me most about Berlin is how it merges an immense history with progressive politics and an active art scene. On my tours, I make sure to present a balanced view so that guests recognize the city as both a historical landmark and a center of contemporary culture. Outside of tour guiding, I still teach history, English, and sociology at a school in West Berlin. In my spare time, I make electronic dance music using synthesizers and drum machines. Whenever I have the chance, I also travel to take city breaks around Europe and join walking tours myself to explore new places.
