Krakow
plende

My parents both studied German philology, so my teenage rebellion involved studying almost everything else: history, comparative civilizations, and even Indian philology. Despite my detours, I ended up working with the German language anyway, and I’ve been sharing Kraków’s stories with Walkative guests since 2018. My father is probably still disappointed that I tell jokes for a living instead of translating Goethe, but for me, this is the perfect way to combine my love for languages and history. Languages are my greatest pleasure in life, next to travelling through India.

What I love about Kraków is that it’s a large city that still feels cosy, with layers of history waiting to be discovered under almost every building. Guiding in the Jewish Quarter sparked a desire to learn Yiddish and Hebrew, which in turn has given me a much deeper appreciation for my own city’s complex past. When I’m not working, I wish I had more time for a good book in a quiet café, preferably with vegan pastry. I have to stay busy, after all—I have four furry monsters waiting at home to be fed!
