1. St Dunstan in the East

Hidden between London Bridge and the Tower of London, St Dunstan in the East is one of the city’s most enchanting spaces. Bombed during the Blitz and left as a ruin, the church has since been transformed into a public garden where ivy climbs the old stone walls and trees grow through Gothic windows. It’s peaceful, free to visit and one of London’s favourite places for proposals and engagement photos.

2. Meet Under the Waterloo Clock

Long before smartphones, Londoners had one simple instruction when arranging to meet: “Under the clock.” Hanging above the concourse at Waterloo Station, the famous four-faced clock has been the backdrop to countless first dates, emotional reunions and hurried embraces for over a century. It’s still one of the capital’s great meeting places.

3. Take a Boat on the Thames

London makes far more sense from the river. Whether you hop on an Uber Boat or take a sightseeing cruise (boo!), the city reveals itself from an entirely different angle. Go around sunset if you can—the bridges, skyline and riverside landmarks are at their best as the lights begin to come on.

4. Hampstead Heath and the Hill Garden & Pergola

If you’re looking to escape the pace of central London, head north to Hampstead Heath. Wander through ancient woodland, climb Parliament Hill for one of the city’s best views, then make your way to the nearby Hill Garden and Pergola, an overgrown Edwardian terrace that feels more like an Italian villa than a London park.

5. Walk Along Regent’s Canal

One of London’s loveliest walks follows Regent’s Canal through quiet neighbourhoods, colourful narrowboats and waterside cafés. Whether you start at Little Venice or King’s Cross, the towpath offers a slower, greener side of the capital and proves that some of London’s best scenery lies away from its busiest streets.

6. Greenwich Park

Greenwich has just about everything: royal history, elegant architecture, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest views in London. Climb the hill to the Royal Observatory, then wander back down through the park before following the Thames along the riverside. It’s easy to spend an entire afternoon here.

7. Barbican Conservatory

Few places sum up London’s love of contrasts quite like the Barbican Conservatory. Hidden inside one of the world’s most famous Brutalist buildings is a lush tropical garden filled with palms, cacti and koi ponds. It’s an unexpected oasis in the middle of the City and one of London’s most unusual date spots.

8. St Pancras International

Even if you’re not catching a train, St Pancras International is worth a visit. Beneath its soaring Victorian roof stands The Meeting Place, Paul Day’s famous sculpture of two lovers embracing. Add in the station’s beautiful architecture and the promise of trains disappearing off to Paris, and it’s hard not to feel a little romantic.

9. Richmond Riverside

Richmond feels a world away from central London. The Thames flows gently past old pubs and Georgian buildings, rowing boats drift by, and riverside benches invite you to slow down for a while. Pair it with a walk through nearby Richmond Park and you’ve got one of London’s perfect days out.

10. Millennium Bridge

Crossing the Millennium Bridge after dark is one of London’s simplest pleasures. St Paul’s Cathedral rises directly ahead while the lights of the City shimmer behind you, and the Thames stretches out on either side. It’s a short walk, but one that never really loses its magic.

11. Kew Gardens

With its Victorian glasshouses, towering trees and beautifully landscaped gardens, Kew is one of the most romantic places in London at any time of year. Spring blossom, summer borders, autumn colours or the famous Christmas lights—there’s never really a bad time to visit, and there’s always somewhere quiet to wander together.

12. Nunhead Cemetery

Romance doesn’t have to mean roses. One of London’s magnificent Victorian cemeteries, Nunhead is a wonderfully atmospheric place where ivy-covered tombs and winding woodland paths create a setting that feels almost forgotten by time. It’s peaceful, beautiful and perfect for anyone who appreciates the city’s more gothic side.
