Your July 2026 Newsletter
Welcome to the heart of the Mediterranean summer! If you are heading to the Eternal City this July, you are in for a vibrant, sun-drenched experience. Rome is buzzing with energy, outdoor festivals, and warm summer nights perfect for a late-evening gelato and an evening stroll through the lit up monuments.
Here is your summary of what to expect and how to make the most of your Roman holiday this month:
☀️ Weather & Packing
July in Rome is historically one of the hottest months of the year. Expect brilliant blue skies and daytime highs frequently reaching into the low-to-mid 30s Celsius (90s Fahrenheit).
* What to pack: Breathable, light fabrics (linen and cotton), a wide-brimmed hat, comfortable walking shoes, and sunglasses.
* Keep in mind: If you plan to visit the Vatican, the Pantheon, or any of Rome’s beautiful basilicas, a strict dress code applies. Shoulders and knees must be covered, so pack a light scarf or shawl to drape over your shoulders before entering.
⛲ Beat the Heat like a Roman
You don’t need to buy bottled water while exploring! Keep an empty reusable bottle on hand and fill it up at any of Rome’s nasoni (the little cast-iron public fountains scattered throughout the city). The water flows continuously and is fresh, cold, and completely free. To escape the midday heat, do as the locals do: enjoy a leisurely, shaded lunch or visit an air-conditioned museum between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
🎉 July 2026 Highlights & Events
* Lungo il Tevere (Along the Tiber): The banks of the Tiber River come alive every summer evening. White tents line the riverwalk featuring pop-up restaurants, artisan stalls, live music, and outdoor bars. It’s the perfect place for an aperitivo at sunset.
* Opera at Circus Maximus: Experience a truly magical evening by attending an open-air opera, ballet, or concert set in the historical setting of the former ancient Roman hippodrome.
* Festa de' Noantri: Held in the Trastevere neighborhood toward the end of July, this traditional festival honors the Madonna of Mount Carmel. Expect religious processions followed by lively street celebrations, local food stalls, and a fantastic fireworks display.
🏛️ Sightseeing Tips
We highly recommend booking your entry tickets well in advance to the most popular museums and monuments to avoid queuing under the hot sun. To enjoy the best experience and the coolest temperatures, try to schedule your major outdoor sightseeing for the early morning as soon as the gates open, or opt for special twilight access if available.
Buon viaggio! Have a wonderful trip to Rome!

Festa De' Noantri
Festa de' Noantri ("The Feast of Our People" in dialect) is one of Rome's oldest and most cherished traditions in the historic Trastevere district. Its origins date back to the 16th century, when, according to tradition, a wooden statue of the Madonna del Carmine was discovered by local fishermen after washing ashore at the mouth of the Tiber. Since then, the festival has honored the Madonna, the protector of Trastevere people with solemn processions through the streets of the neighbourhood, accompanied by music, cultural events, traditional Roman food, and lively celebrations. The festivities culminate with the return procession of the statue and a spectacular fireworks display 30.7., celebrating the neighborhood's enduring faith, history, and sense of community. |
