November is an incredibly historically important month here, primarily because it marks the anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall on the 9th of November. To commemorate this monumental occasion, the city is hosting "Berlin freedom week." Throughout the capital, you will find several events and exhibitions centred around the themes of the division, the Cold War, and reunification. One particularly fascinating perspective on this era can be seen in the featured exhibition covering Skateboarders before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, which provides a unique look at youth culture and the pursuit of freedom across the Iron Curtain.
To immerse yourself further into the history of the divided city, we highly recommend joining the From Karl Marx to the Berlin Wall: Communism, Cold War, and East Berlin guided walking tour. It is the perfect way to trace the remnants of the GDR, walking from the Marx-Engels Forum straight down to the East Side Gallery.
One of Berlin’s most renowned cultural institutions, The German History Museum, also offering other profound historical reflections, including the deeply moving and critical exhibition, Controversial Kinship: Colonial and National Socialist Violence.
As we head into the second half of the month, the atmosphere in the city transforms as the much-anticipated Christmas market season starts. The official beginning of the festivities is on November 24th, bringing warmth, roasted almonds, and cheer to the crisp autumn air. Be sure to grab a cozy mug of hot Glühwein and explore the artisan stalls at the iconic Berlin Christmas Market at Rotes Rathaus, which beautifully lights up the historic Neptune Fountain and it's surroundings.
Whether you are here to retrace the complex footsteps of 20th-century history or to kick off your holiday celebrations, Berlin in November 2026 is an unforgettable destination! Discover all this and more by joining one of the fantastic Walkative! tours.
