The festival brings musicians and audiences together around this beautiful instrument and offers a wonderful opportunity to hear Ukrainian music in a very special atmosphere.

🏛️ «Той день/That Day» — an interactive exhibition

Another event worth adding to your Lviv plans is «Той день», an interactive exhibition exploring the day Ukraine proclaimed its independence on 24 August 1991 — what happened that day, who was involved, what events followed, and, most importantly, what long and complex path led Ukraine to independence.

This year, Ukraine marked 35 years of independence — and is still fighting for it today.

The exhibition is also an opportunity to look beyond the events of 1991 and better understand Ukraine itself: Ukrainian values, the people who shaped the country, and the history and culture that formed Ukrainian identity and the idea of an independent state.

It is a place to learn, reflect, and perhaps see some familiar events of Ukrainian history from a different perspective.

📖 History that is still being written

While exploring Lviv’s cultural spaces, make sure to visit the “Pop Poll Greg’a” exhibition at the "After Silence" Public History Space exploring the world of Ukrainian hippies and the influence of Western rock culture behind the Iron Curtain.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Western music — especially rock — managed to reach even Soviet Ukraine. For many young people, it became a way to feel connected to the wider world and to the international counterculture. For some, it offered an imagined escape from Soviet reality; for others, it became a subtle form of resistance. The Soviet regime, meanwhile, viewed such interests as the result of hostile “ideological sabotage.”

At the centre of the exhibition is the personal archive of Greg — a passionate rock music fan, photographer, traveller, and member of a Ukrainian hippie community inspired by their Western contemporaries.

The exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into a generation of young Ukrainians who found ways to connect with the world, express themselves, and create their own spaces of freedom within Soviet reality. 📸🎸

🧺 Lviv’s community spirit

And then there is perhaps one of the nicest ways to experience present-day Lviv: simply spending time among its people.

Throughout the city, you can find charity events, local markets, creative fairs, and community initiatives raising money for different causes. You might find handmade crafts, local food, vintage treasures, books, or simply a nice place to spend your weekend.

Shopping at these events is a small but lovely way to support local initiatives — and to see the community spirit that makes Lviv what it is.
